Find your new favourite face mask with Peter Thomas Roth’s Meet Your Mask Kit!

Peter Thomas Roth Meet Your Mask with florals and a marble background

When I picked up Peter Thomas Roth’s Meet your Mask kit last year I knew it was likely that I’d be discovering another mask or two to my list of favourite skin care products. I’ve had such good luck and results with Peter Thomas Roth and even though I rarely splurge on skin care, if I’m going to splurge, it’s high on my list of brands to choose from.

Ultimately I purchased this kit because I’m obsessed with mini and/or travel-sized products; I love that they give me a chance to try something out at a lesser cost compared with purchasing the full size.  Rest assured however, that I have a good handle on all of these masks as I’ve been using all of them regularly over the last several months.  I definitely have my opinions (spoiler alert – I love them all except one!) so let’s get into them!

ABOUT

A selection of Peter Thomas Roth's masks on a marble background with florals above it

This set is described as sampler kit with six of Peter Thomas Roth’s most popular masks to detoxify, soothe, hydrate, and polish skin.  It appears to be sold out on Sephora’s website, but at the time I’m writing this, is available on Beauty Bay.  I suspect it has been discontinued but can’t say for certain as this set was often sold out on Sephora’s website last year.  Not to fear though, there is a similar option (the Blue Algae mask is swapped out for the Hungarian Thermal Mask) available in the Mask Mash Up set sold at Ulta, Nordstrom, and Peter Thomas Roth online

PRICE

$31 CAD ($54 value) for 6 masks (0.47 oz each)

THE MASKS

Pumpkin Enzyme Mask

About

A powerful, triple-action exfoliator that uses aluminium oxide crystals, pumpkin enzymes, and an alpha hydroxy acid to reveal smooth, radiant skin.  This powerful, triple-action, manual, chemical, and enzymatic exfoliating treatment addresses a dull, aging, and congested complexion in three ways: it exfoliates with pumpkin enzyme, reveals with alpha hydroxy acid, and polishes with aluminium oxide crystals. It also helps even the appearance of skin tone, smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and clarify to reveal skin that looks smoother, younger, radiant, and revitalized.

Ingredients

Water, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin), Alumina, Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Lactobacillus/Pumpkin Fruit Ferment Filtrate, Sodium Lactate, Ascorbic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, BHT, Sodium Hyaluronate, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Benzoic Acid, Sorbic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Cinnamal, Fragrance.

My Thoughts

This is one of my favourite masks in the kit for a few reasons; first, the superficial – it straight-up smells like pumpkin pie.  I’m not always a fan of fragrance in skin care but I won’t complain about this one – I only wish more products smelled like this!  Second – and more importantly, I see results with this.  This is a combination of a physical and chemical exfoliant and you can adjust the level of both with how gentle you massage it in and how long you leave it on.  They recommend anywhere from 3-7 minutes and I never leave it longer than 5.  I’d also caution what you pair this with – for my skin it’s best to stick with a basic moisturizer that doesn’t contain any active ingredients; otherwise my skin looks and feels dry.

After using this my skin feels smoother, has less texture and looks a little brighter.  I haven’t noticed any results with fine lines or wrinkles but I find that hard to measure with a mask that I use, at the most twice a week.  Overall I just love the two-in-one exfoliant properties of this mask.  I definitely plan on purchasing the full-size once I finish up the smaller tubes I have on-hand!

Cucumber Gel Mask

About

A refreshing, cooling, moisturizing, and calming gel that helps soothe dry, irritated skin. This ultra-gentle gel helps soothe, hydrate, and detoxify dry skin with botanical extracts of cucumber, papaya, chamomile, pineapple, sugar maple, sugarcane, orange, lemon, bilberry, and aloe. It is excellent to calm and soothe irritated skin after sun exposure, peels, waxing, facials, and extractions, and may be used under the eye area to help reduce the look of puffiness.

Ingredients

Water, Butylene Glycol, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit/Leaf Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Fruit Extract, Sodium PCA, Allantoin, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Polysorbate 20, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Blue 1 (CI 42090).

My Thoughts

This is another fave of mine – I’ve actually used this mask off-and-on for years but at this point it should really just become a skin care staple for me.  My dry, sensitive skin loves this!  The gel formula is cooling and soothing – I’m always reaching for this when I’ve overdone it with another skin care product to help calm my skin.  The first time I used this I was worried about it having a strong cucumber scent but it’s very subtle which is important to me because I loathe cucumbers! 😉  If I could only recommend one of these masks to everyone this would be it – I feel that everyone could benefit from it and it’s perfect to have on hand for any skincare-related emergencies or if you just want to give your skin a break!

Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask

About

A purifying, decongesting, and hydrating mask with odorless Irish moor mud to draw out dirt, oil and impurities as it infuses skin with moisture and vitamins. Irish moor mud rids the skin of dirt, oil and impurities—infusing it with essential moisture and vitamins. Black hijiki seaweed provides vital nutrition and hydration as volcanic ash helps revitalize and detoxify skin. Activated charcoal has a magnetic effect that draws impurities and toxins from congested pores. This mask helps minimize the look of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles, leaving skin looking pure, fresh, hydrated, and radiant.

Ingredients

Water, Glycerin, Peat, Charcoal Powder, Polyacrylamide, Lava Powder, Sargassum Fusiforme Extract, Kaolin, Bentonite, Lactic Acid, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Isohexadecane, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Dimethicone, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Polysorbate 80, Laureth-7, Sorbitan Oleate, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Mica (CI 77019.

My Thoughts

This was one the mask out of the bunch that I was most worried about trying; my experience with mud masks prior to this is that my skin always felt tight and dry afterwards.  There is a noticeable difference with this one – I noticed that it appeared to bring any impurities to the surface but not at the expense of my skin’s hydration.  I definitely notice a difference in pore size in and around my nose after using this as well – always a plus!  Again, I didn’t notice any difference in wrinkles or fine lines here but I wouldn’t depend on a mask for those types of results anyway – to me that’s something that’s associated with products used daily…but what do I know?  Anyway, I enjoyed this mask and I’d consider purchasing the full size but it’s not at the top of my list when compared to some of the other masks included in this kit.

24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask

About

A luxurious firming and lifting treatment powered by 24K and colloidal gold for an opulent, radiant glow.  The ultimate luxurious anti-aging treatment, this rich mask is infused with pure 24K gold and colloidal gold to help improve the appearance of skin firmness and impart an opulent glow. Known from the time of Cleopatra to have powerful anti-aging benefits, 24K gold helps firm, lift, brighten, and calm the appearance of skin. Caffeine helps skin appear firmer and tighter while peridot—an exquisite gemstone rich in magnesium—re-energizes and helps reduce the look of aging and stress. Hyaluronic acid and glycerin deliver exceptional hydration for a more lifted appearance. This lavish, pampering treatment helps to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving skin looking silky smooth, firmer, radiant, revitalized, and youthful.

Ingredients

Glycerin, Water, Sodium Hyaluronate, Caffeine, Olivine Extract, Colloidal Gold, Pentylene Glycol, Carbomer, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Metabisulfite, Mica, Phenoxyethanol, Gold (Ci 77480), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891).

My Thoughts

This was the mask I was most intrigued by; I have never tried any skin care products with gold as an ingredient and despite hearing some mixed reviews on the effectiveness of it, I was eager to try it out myself.  Sadly, I wasn’t a fan of this.  The mask has a sticky, tacky texture and if I leave it on for any more than a couple of minutes, I start breaking out within an hour or two afterwards.  I didn’t notice any of the firming or lifting benefits as they claimed and while my skin felt soft, I didn’t find it to feel hydrated.  Overall this was the most disappointing mask of the bunch and I kind of wish they would have swapped this one out instead of the Blue Marine Algae mask in their new set.

a close up of the Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Mask on a marble background

Rose Stem Cell Bio-Repair Gel Mask

About

A reparative, soothing gel mask, powdered by rose stem cell technology, that helps diminish visible signs of aging.  Cutting-edge plant biotechnology isolates and replicates the perfect rose stem cells for truly astonishing results. This mask helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dehydration, dullness, and sagging as it strengthens and tones the look of skin. Skin is left looking silky soft, radiant, beautiful, and youthful.

Ingredients

Water, Butylene Glycol, Propanediol, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Trideceth-9, Triethanolmaine, Carbomer, Rosa Centifolia Leaf Cell Extract, Rosa Alba Leaf Cell Extract, Rosa Damascena Leaf Cell Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Rose Centifolia Flower Water, Commiphora Myrrha Leaf Cell Extract, Adenium Obesum Leaf Cell Extract, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Glycerin, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, BHT, Sodium PCA, Propylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, PPG-26 Buteth-26, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylimethane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Disodium EDTA, Potassium Sorbate, Red 33 (Ci 17200).

My Thoughts

Rose-scented products aren’t usually my favourite but I’ll tolerate the scent if it’s not overpowering and I see results – such is this case with this one!  This one took me by surprise, I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did.  I suspect because this has those soothing, calming properties that are similar to the Cucumber Gel Mask but it’s also slightly more hydrating. I find my skin looks plumper and restored after using this so I could definitely see myself adding this into my mask rotation on a regular basis.

Blue Marine Algae Intense Hydrating Mask (Discontinued)

About

Like diving into a glacier lake, but not nearly as cold, the Peter Thomas Roth Blue Marine Algae Intense Hydrating Mask infuses your skin with nutrients and lasting moisture. Antioxidants protect your skin from pollutants like free radicals while marine botanicals seal in moisture. The results? Smooth, hydrated, healthier-looking skin with fewer signs of age. Humectants continually draw moisture from the air to plump your skin and reduce the depth of lines and wrinkles.

Ingredients

Water/Aqua/Eau, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Flower/Leaf/Stem Water, Glycerin, Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Kappaphycus Alvarezii Extract, Algae Extract, Maris Aqua (Sea Water), Sodium Hyaluronate, Mica, Silica, Carbomer, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium Edta, Citric Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Blue 1 (Ci 42090).

My Thoughts

Sadly, this mask appears to have been discontinued which is too bad because I enjoyed it.  It was super hydrating and moisturizing and it had that same gel formula that was cooling and refreshing.  The scent was just okay for me – it kind of reminded me of a toned down ocean-scented perfume but I didn’t hate it or find it irritating.  At the end of the day it doesn’t matter much considering it’s not available anymore but I would like to see them include a mask specific to hydration in one of their new sets to replace this one.

VERDICT

I was not disappointed at all in this purchase – in fact, it was one of my favourite purchases from last year!  I loved that I got the opportunity to try out a variety of masks from the brand and that I was pleased with all of them, aside from one.  In addition, I think this set is a great value overall; they gave me enough product to really test it out, see results and determine what fit with my skin type and preferences.  These are also convenient for travel that I’d actually consider purchasing a similar set just for that purpose.  Lastly I think pretty much everyone could find at least one, if not more, mask in here that they’d enjoy – there truly is something for everyone but half the fun is testing them all out!

If you happen to come across the Meet your Mask set or their new Mask Mash Up kit I definitely recommend picking one up!

I’ve tried the cucumber mask before and I really enjoyed it. I don’t think I’ve met anyone who didn’t like cucumbers before! I’m glad the scent wasn’t too overpowering for you.

I want to try the pumpkin mask now after reading your review. The smell sounds divine. Great reviews!
