In an effort to focus more on the products in my collection (and buy less!) in 2018, I did two projects – a Project Pan and something I called my Monthly Makeup Focus where I cycled through a group of new and existing products each month. It was a lot but I really felt that I actually used the products in my collection and that was a good feeling. This year, I’m doing another Project Pan but I’m also putting myself on a low buy.
Low Buy
For the first time ever, I’ve decided to go on a low-buy this year. Doing Project Pans over the last couple of years and my Monthly Makeup Focus project last year really opened my eyes to how much makeup I have and how long it can take to get through just one product. I’ve decided I need to scale back in my purchases even more than I did last year if I want to continue this momentum I’ve started and as such, I’ve created a couple of loose rules for myself to follow:
- One in, one out: When possible, I’m going to follow this philosophy. Once I finish one up, I can purchase another but only if I need it!
- Putting limits on specific makeup purchases:
- Eyeshadow palettes: Limit of 2 but aim for 1 new addition. (This is going to be tough!)
- Lip products: Limit of 3 but aim for 2 new additions.
- Blushes: Limit of 2 but aim for 1 new addition.
- Aim for one new makeup purchase a month: I don’t expect this to be too difficult as I’m sort of doing this now but I’m going to allow myself some leeway if I’m travelling (hello Ulta!) and during Sephora sales.
Note: Any PR products I receive will not be included/counted towards my low buy.
I’m very interested to see how this is going to work for me this year – wish me luck!

What products do you want to finish up in 2019?
Good luck with your low buy & project pan! I don’t think I could limit myself to just 2 new eyeshadow palettes, that would be so hard!
Yeah it’s not going to be easy but when I look at my collection I know I probably won’t even come close to using half of it in my lifetime so I’d rather scale back. I have a small vanity and it’s getting packed with mostly eyeshadow palettes and I refuse to start taking over other spaces in my bathroom so I really am leaving myself no choice! 😉
Yes as soon as your collection migrates into a second room that’s too much! It’s better to project pan lol
