18 in 2018: Project Pan UPDATE

Time for an update on my Project Pan for 2018!  Originally I think I said I would provide updates quarterly but I honestly didn’t feel like that made a lot of sense given I didn’t have much to update a few months in.  I really started making some progress and finishing things up around a month or ago so that’s why I’m here now.

In my updates I just update you when I’ve finished a product or hit pan on it – I’ll be honest and say I can’t be bothered to post progress pics.  So here’s what I’ve finished up thus far:

Products I’ve Used Up

Clinique City Block Sheer Oil Free Daily Face Protector
This is a tinted sunscreen that expired in May; there was about 1/3 of the tube left.
GOAL: Finish product.
Review: I enjoy this sunscreen; it’s tinted, lightweight and non-greasy.  It works well on its own or layered with powdered foundation for more coverage.  I only wish the SPF was a little higher on it but I would consider purchasing it again.

L’Oreal Infalliable Makeup Extending Setting Spray
Carry over from my 2017 project pan; last year I started with 1/2 of the bottle, now there’s 1/4 of the bottle left.
GOAL: Finish product.
Review: This was an okay setting spray; it didn’t work consistently, sometimes it made my foundation last longer, other times I found it made my skin dry and didn’t affect lasting power at all.  Overall it was fine but I wouldn’t repurchase it.  The best setting spray I’ve tried is Make Up For Ever’s Mist & Fix.

bareMinerals Mineral Veil
I have 3 BareMineral powder products in my project and this is one of them; each of them has about 1/4 of the jar left.
GOAL: Finish product.
Review: This is a really lightweight, finely milled finishing powder; again, I had some inconsistent results with this.  I did not like it under my eyes; I found it sunk into fine lines, looked dry and didn’t actually set my concealer.  As an all-over setting powder though, I found it worked nicely.  Ultimately though I prefer that a setting powder cover both bases so I wouldn’t repurchase this.

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer (Medium/Deep)
I love this bronzer, it’s a great shade for me and it smells like chocolate.  But it’s quite old, if I had to guess I’d say around 5 years.  I mainly use this for travel so there’s just a small dip in the pan.
GOAL: Hit pan.
Review: Woo hoo, I finally hit pan on this!  This is such a good bronzer and the size is perfect for travel; however, as mentioned it is old so I’m going to keep this in my project with the hopes of completely finishing it up.  I’m confident that I’ll be able to do it.

Rosebud Perfume Co. Strawberry Lip Balm
Carry-over from 2017 Project; I hit pan on this last year but there’s still 1/2 a tin left.
GOAL: Finish product.
Review: OMG I finally finished this up – it only took me a year and a half of daily use – which is crazy.  I’d classify this as a good lip balm – it’s not super hydrating but it left my lips soft and moisturized.  The strawberry scent was nice but a little synthetic and I wasn’t crazy about always having to use my finger to apply this.  If you’re okay with that and want a lip balm that will literally last you forever, I’d recommend it (but I probably won’t buy it again).

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick (Melted Fig)
Carry over from 2017; I have no way of knowing how much product is left here unfortunately.
GOAL: Finish product.
Review: This was another lip product I didn’t think I’d ever finish up – it just kept going and going and going.  I was so sick of using this near the end, I couldn’t wait for it to be done.  It’s a pretty colour and a nice formula (thicker, slightly moussey but comfortable to wear) but I’ve lost a lot of interest in darker lip colours – I prefer nude and mauve shades now.  I just find them to be lower maintenance (no need for a lip liner) and just generally more flattering on me.  I may consider purchasing one of these again (in a different shade of course) but only if I could get the travel-sized version like I had here – I can’t imagine how long a full-size would last!

elf Matte Lip Colour (Tea Rose)
Carry-over from 2017; 1/3 of the tube remains
GOAL: Finish product
Review: Good Lord lip products take forever to use up – it’s made me realize how unnecessary it is to have more than a handful – they’ll likely go bad before you can even come close to using one up.  Anyway, I actually didn’t mind the formula on this at all – it was matte but not too drying and you should know that I very rarely like matte lip products.  My only complaint was the colour – it’s a dusty rose but it kind of made me look dead so I always ended up topping this with a gloss.  I would definitely consider picking up another one of these in a different shade, although not any time soon – I need to make some progress on the lip products currently in my collection.

Victoria Secret Love Spell Body Spray
Carry-over from 2017; Less than 1/4 of the bottle remains
GOAL: Finish product.
Review: Another product that seems to last forever: body spray (or maybe it’s just everything in a product pan in general?).  I finally finished this up and while it smelled lovely (peach, cherry blossom and white jasmine) it literally lasted all of 10 seconds on me.  I’ve got two body sprays in this project and once I’ve used them both up, I think I’m done buying body sprays for that exact reason.

PRODUCTS COMPLETED: 8

Products I’m adding in

Britney Spears Believe

I’m making some real progress on my fragrances this year which is good because many of them are getting old; I’ve got about 1/4 of this bottle left.
GOAL: Finish product

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

I really like this powder but I rarely reach for it – I’ve grown to dislike loose powders and prefer pressed powders instead.  This is the travel-sized version of this powder but it’s barely been used.  I don’t expect to use this up by the end of the year, especially because you don’t need much of it.
GOAL: Use up half of the jar

NYX Lid Lingerie Eye Tint (Nude to Me)

I’m in love with this liquid eyeshadow; it has a moussey texture, blends out nicely and has some great lasting power.  Unfortunately I find it’s starting to dry out so I want to make sure I use this up before it goes bad.
GOAL: Complete product

Kiko Milano Long Lasting Stick 8-Hour No-Transfer Eyeshadow

This stick eyeshadow is pigmented and creamy and a pretty peach shade – but not one I ever reach for.
Goal: Complete product.

Urban Decay Glide-On Eye Pencil (Tornado)

I own a bunch of these eyeliners and it’s time I start to really focus on using them up; this is a metallic eggplant shade that’s been discontinued.
GOAL: Complete product.

Sephora Oil Infusion (Bubbly Grenadine)

It looks as though Sephora is discontinuing these lip oils, which is unfortunate because they’re good, or at least this shade is.  They are comfortable to wear and pretty moisturizing and leaves my lips with a pretty tint that’s great for Summer.  There doesn’t appear to be a lot left in this tube but as I mentioned above, lip products seem to take forever to use up so we’ll see how long this lasts.
GOAL: Complete product

Milani Color Statement Lip Liner (03 Nude)

I’m not really a big lip liner fan but I’m going to need one given the lipstick I’ve included below.  This is a pretty nude shade that will go with most lip colours.
GOAL: Complete product

Bite Beauty Luminious Creme Lipstick (Mauvember)

Bite Beauty no longer makes this formula and this is a limited edition shade.  It’s a pretty intense deep mauve shade and it has a very creamy, moisturizing formula.  As with many of these products, this is getting old and I’d like to use it up.
Goal: Complete product

Wow, you’re doing so well on your project pan! You finished a good amount of products, which is quite a feat!

Love he formula of the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer – you’ve made such good progress on it. It’ll feel so satisfying to completely finish it up!

I have a full sized version of the LM Translucent Loose Powder, and even using it every single day for two years, I’ve barely made a dent in it! That thing just will not quit. I think finishing half of the travel size is a good goal!

I love the Bite Luminous Lipstick formula. Have you tried the Amuse Bouche formula? I keep wondering if it’s just as good, if not better than the Luminous Lipstick!

Love Spell is such a classic. I always get sucked into body sprays, and then wonder why I bought it since the scent disappears as soon as I spray it on, haha.

Yeah I fully expect to still be using that LM powder at this time next year…especially because I use such little powder on the daily. It really makes you realize how long it takes to use up a product and how stockpiling products can be so wasteful.

I’ve yet to try Bite’s Amuse Bouche formula yet but I’ve heard good things!

      Thanks for reading! 🙂

I really wish I had the dedication and the ability to not lose items, because I would totally try project pan. I liked reading your thoughts on the products.

If you ever try bare minerals again, I really like their All-Over Face colour for some subtle coverage or as a subtle bronzer. But I am really intrigued by BITE. I see it everywhere and I hear its awesome, but don’t actually own any BITE products.

I actually have their All-Over Face in Warmth in my Project Pan – I like it but I’m trying to use it up in Summer because it can tend to look orange on me.

Yes, you definitely need to try Bite Beauty, they make great products and they are Canadian! 🙂
