This & That Fridays – February 9

WHAT’S UP

We had a full blown snowpocalypse that started Wednesday night and lasted into yesterday – I’d estimate at our house we got at least 30 cm of snow.  I spent hours shoveling and we are not allowed to get any more snow because we don’t have anywhere else to put it!  We have snowbanks 3-4 feet tall all around our house.  Also, I’m going on strike, I’m done with shoveling snow for the rest of the year.

Any Valentine’s Day plans for you?   We’re not big V-Day celebrators, we skip gifts and usually go for dinner before or after the actual day itself.  This year I think we’re just going to go to a movie, which one is TBD.  I’m completely okay with having movie theatre popcorn for dinner!

I made this lemon blueberry french toast recipe last weekend and while it was good, I think sweet breakfast dishes are becoming less appealing to me as I get older.  It used to be all I wanted but now I’ll take an savoury dish anyday.

RECENT PURCHASES

I found a Sigma brush at Winners last week for $14.99!  This is my first time trying anything Sigma and I’ve used it a few times so far, and it’s pretty good!

Superstore had Maybelline’s Collossal Big Shot mascara on last week (finally!) so I picked it up.  I’ve been waiting for it to go on sale for weeks; I included it in my February Makeup Focus.

Also, makeup-related, I needed another liquid eyeliner, so I repurchased my favourite Clinque Pretty Easy Liquid Eyeliner a few weeks back.  I do enjoy it but I definitely prefer it more when it’s dried out a bit.

CURRENTLY COVETING

I really really want one both of Milani’s newest eyeshadow palettes.  The reviews have been really positive and they look so pretty!  I don’t expect to see them here in Canada, we never seem to get the newest releases from them.

This sleep therapy speaker looks so cool – and it’s on sale!

Okay, back to eyeshadow palettes – look at this new Viseart palette!  Isn’t it stunning?  Too bad it’s a Beautylish exclusive.

I so wish we had Kohl’s in Canada – every year I lust over Lauren Conrad’s newest collection.  That dress is so perfect!

This seems like a great Sephora Favourites kit – minus that Tarte eyeliner (I own it and hate it).

Think I’m going to make Chicken Parmesan this weekend and I think this is the recipe I’m going to try.  I always have such good results with any recipe of Tyler Florence.

FUNNIEST PRODUCT OF THE WEEK

A trump-scented candle, complete with a toupe?

CURRENTLY WATCHING

Peaky Blinders

This show is kind of a mix between Boardwalk Empire and Sons of Anarchy.  It’s set in the 1920’s and it’s all about a gang called the Peaky Blinders.  It took me a little bit to get into it but now I’m hooked – and we’re almost at the end of the last available season on Netflix.

The Singles Game – Lauren Weisberger

The Devil Wears Prada is probably one of my favourite books and movies of all time; as such, I keep trying to find something on the same level written by Lauren but I haven’t been successful.  This was no exception.  It was a stereotypical chic-lit but it revolved a lot around tennis which I don’t really have much of an interest in.  I read it but I had to force myself to do so which is never a sign of a good book for me; unless you really enjoy tennis, I’d pass on this one.

Haha we were also saying the other day how we’ve run out of places to put the snow because our snow banks are too high! We shoveled 4 times on the weekend because of that snowstorm on Saturday, and then twice yesterday. It needs to stop!

We also don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day (although for some reason I’m oddly into all of the pink décor/cutesy stuff this year) – like you, usually just a dinner either the weekend before or after.

YESSS I want those Milani palettes too! But like you said, we’re probably not getting them in Canada because we’re always neglected!

I have always been under the impression that Beautylish ships to Canada?? Because I definitely want that Viseart palette, as well as the new Becca highlighter with the Eiffel tower embossed on it, which is only available through Beautylish.

Ugh, I’ve stopped looking at Lauren Conrad’s collections entirely because I’m so jealous we can’t get her clothes here.

    LOLL the Trump-scented candle…no, thanks.

And more snow today? And more snow this week – waaaaaaahhhhh. I’m so done with Winter.

I think you are right, I think they do ship to Canada but am I willing to pay shipping, exchange and customs? Probably not. Oh I haven’t seen that Becca highlighter, I should go check that out.

We get so screwed here with all the good things, don’t we? 🙁

Oh wow, awesome score on the Sigma Brush! I have a couple of their brushes (they have a store in Minneapolis) and I really like them!

I second your wish for Khols to come to Canada… it’s such a magical place! Now that Sears has closed up shop it would have been a good time to venture into the Canadian market with all those deserted stores… The closest Khols to me is about 4 hours away but we only usually go a couple times a year. So far I have no plans to go until the end of September ?

Have you read the follow-up to the Devil Wears Prada? I read it about a year or two ago and I recall it was pretty good? Although probably not as good as the first one (are follow-ups ever as good?)

I’ve definitely impressed with my Sigma brush so far – I want to try more of them, it’s nice that they’re more readily available in Canada now.

I’m dying to hit up a Kohl’s sometime – I’ve never been in one but I feel like I’d do very well in there. 🙂

I did read the follow up to the Devil Wears Prada, I liked it but you’re right, the follow ups are never as good!
