This & That Fridays – January 26

WHAT’S UP

I can’t believe I haven’t blogged about one of my newest obsession – PODCASTS!  I’m going to blame Makeup by Tiffani D because a few months ago she started raving about the Dirty John podcast so I listened to that and that created a monster from there on in.  My favourite genre is true crime but I can’t listen to them too often because they give me nightmares (ironic, I know).  So far I’ve listened to a handful with my favourites being Serial (Season 1) and Up & Vanished.  This week I started listening to Young House Love which is more design/everyday life focused, which is a nice change (and not nightmare-inducing).  If you listen to podcasts let me know your favourites!

RECENT PURCHASES

One of my favourite purchases on Boxing Day was these black distressed jeans from Old Navy – I can’t remember the last time I owned a pair of black jeans before these and I forgot how versatile they are.  I love the raw edge hem on them plus they are so comfortable!

A few weeks ago I redeemed my Shopper’s Optimum Points (90,000 of them to be exact) for the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette & Simple Human Mini Sensor Mirror.  I haven’t tried the palette yet (it’s going to be included in my February Makeup Focus) but I’ve used the mirror quite a bit.  I really like it but is it worth that $150 price tag?  Stay tuned for a review!

This is my new cell phone case – and I love it, it’s so pretty!

CURRENTLY COVETING

I feel like a moto jacket is something that is missing from my closet and I really like this Faux Suede one from Old Navy.  I think I’d pick it up in Navy.

I need these Colorblock Champagne Flutes – so Springy!

Most reviews I’ve read/watched on this new Too Faced palette say it’s not that great but I’m so intrigued by it – it looks so pretty!  Sometimes it’s nice to have a less intense eyeshadow palette around.

How cute are these Burberry Bear Bag Charms?  I’d never pay $200 for one of them but they are adorable!

I’m extremely intrigued by the packaging on these Dr. Jart masks….

I love this Dog Rules Wall Plaque – it’s definitely Maggie-approved. 😉

RECENTLY READ

In conjunction with my 2018 Goal to “Read More Books”, I thought I’d start sharing what I’m currently reading or have recently read to keep track of my progress.

Three Wishes – Liane Moriarty

Liane Moriarty is easily one of my favourite authors – if you haven’t read Big Little Lies (or watched the series!) or The Husband’s Secret you are missing out – they’re great reads.  While this was good, it didn’t hold my attention as much as her other novels.  Still a good beach read though!

What I’m reading next:

The Singles Game – Lauren Weisberger

I just finished reading a Liane Moriarty book too! Truly Madly, Guilty. Pretty good, but I liked A Husband’s Secret and Big Little Lies better. Will read Three Wishes sometime this year, haha!

Hmm, I need to give those podcasts a try! I’ve heard great things about Serial, and I looooove reading and watching true crime/serial killer related things about bed (am I a psychopath?)

Okay, THANK YOU for not making me the only who is interested in the White Peach palette! Like…it looks so boring, I don’t know why I’m drawn to it? But I heard somewhere that it’s supposed to go with the Sweet Peach palette which you already own, so I feel like that’s a sign you should buy it. Just sayin’.

Oh my gosh, those champagne flutes are so pretty! The colours remind me of Easter.

I’ve read Truly, Madly, Guilty too but I can’t remember what that was about? I think I’ve read almost all of her books now, she needs to write a new one!

Serial is SO GOOD – if I could only pick one to listen to, that would be it. I think it’s in large part due to the narrator – she’s got the perfect voice for it. And if you’re a psychopath than I guess I am too – lol! 😉

I just watched a bunch of reviews last nite on the White Peach palette and there weren’t very many positive things said about it. Even so I still kinda want it? I think it’s the packaging, it’s so pretty.

      Thank you for reading! <3

The Dog Rules plaque made me chuckle lol! XD My favorite podcasts so far (though I’m very inconsistent at listening to them) are Ear Biscuits from Rhett and Link and The Way I Heard It by Mike Rowe. Ear Biscuits are about an hour long, and may be more interesting for those who follow their YouTube channel and things (which I do :))? I enjoy when they interview people that you wouldn’t usually hear their story, but it’s very amazing. The Way I Heard It is about 10 minutes long each and pulls out an interesting story from history, usually with a twist you don’t see coming. 🙂

Ooo I liked Big Little Lies & The Husband’s Secret so I’ll have to check out Three Wishes! So great that you’re trying to read more this year! There was a period where I didn’t read as much and I really feel like adding it back to my routine has really been good for my mental health. It’s such a nice and relaxing escape from reality ?
