18 in 2018: Project Pan

Last year was the first time I did a project pan, which if you’re not familiar with the term, is where you focus on using beauty products (usually referring to powder) to the point where you can see the pan underneath.  That said, “hitting pan” can be defined as anything from actually hitting pan, to completely finishing up a product and it’s not limited to just powder products. Last year my project included eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, primers, foundations and everything in between and 2018 will be no different.

Doing a Project Pan can be challenging and boring, but it’s also super satisfying to finish up products.  I decided I want to do another project pan this year (in addition to another project to be announced later this week) but make some changes to how I went about it.

First off all I’m limiting myself to 18 products, at least to start.  And in order to ensure I’m focusing on the products I initially started with, I’m going to make a rule that I can’t add in additional products in any given category until I’ve completely used up the ones I initially added in.  Last year I got a bit trigger happy and added a bunch of products in at every update but I wasn’t really thinking about the fact that I had 5 lip products to use up at the end of the year.  I want to challenge myself while still ensuring I can be successful at this.

Now, on to the products I’m including in this years’ project:

  1. Clinique City Block Sheer Oil Free Daily Face Protector
NOTES: This is a tinted sunscreen that expires in May of this year; there is about 1/3 of the tube left.
    GOAL: Finish product.
  2. bareMinerals Prime Time Foundation Primer (Luminous Gold)
NOTES: This was included in my 2017 Project Pan but I think I used it once; the bottle is basically full.
    GOAL: Finish product.
  3. Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer (Smoothing)
NOTES: About 1/4 of this tube of this foundation primer is left.
    GOAL: Finish product.
  4. L’Oreal Infalliable Makeup Extending Setting Spray
NOTES: Another product that was in my 2017 project; last year I started with 1/2 of the bottle, now there’s 1/4 of the bottle left.
    GOAL: Finish product.
  5. bareMinerals Concealer – Well-Rested
  6. bareMinerals Mineral Veil
  7. bareMinerals All Over Face Colour (Warmth)
NOTES: All 3 of these are carry-overs from last year; each of them has about 1/4 of the jar left.
    GOAL: Finish all 3 products.
  8. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer (Medium/Deep)
NOTES: I love this bronzer, it’s a great shade for me and it smells like chocolate.  But it’s quite old, if I had to guess I’d say around 5 years.  I mainly use this for travel so there’s just a small dip in the pan.
    GOAL: Hit pan.
  9. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Dim Light)
NOTES: This powder is a weird one on me – if I use it all over as it’s intended, it makes my skin look orange.  I’ve decided to use this to set my eyeshadow primer just to use it up.
    GOAL: Hit pan.
  10. Kiko Eye Base Primer
NOTES: From my 2017 project; it’s hard to tell how much is left but I’m guessing around 1/2 the tube.
    GOAL: Finish product.
  11. Too Faced Matte Eye Palette
NOTES: This eyeshadow palette was in my project last year; I made some progress on it but not as much as I wanted.  This is a super old palette and the shadows have gotten a little dry.  However, there are some decent shadows left in here that I’d like to use up.  Once those are done, I’ll be getting rid of the palette.
GOAL: Completely use up Tufted Suede, Chinchilla, Velveteen Bunny, Fresh Linen and Vintage Violet.
  12. Rosebud Perfume Co. Strawberry Lip Balm
NOTES: Carry-over from 2017 Project; I hit pan on this last year but there’s still 1/2 a tin left.
    GOAL: Finish product.
  13. Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick (Melted Fig)
NOTES: Carry over from 2017; I have no way of knowing how much product is left here unfortunately.
    GOAL: Finish product.
  14. elf Matte Lip Colour (Tea Rose)
NOTES: Carry-over from 2017; 1/3 of the tube remains
    GOAL: Finish product.
  15. Benefit Sugarbomb Lip Gloss
NOTES: Another one where it’s hard to tell how much product remains, I’m going to guess and say there’s about 1/2 of the tube left.
    GOAL: Finish product.
  16. Victoria Secret Love Spell Body Spray
NOTES: Carry-over from 2017; Less than 1/4 of the bottle remains
    GOAL: Finish product.
  17. Bath & Body Works Beautiful Day Body Spray
NOTES: Carry-over from 2017; a little less than 1/2 of the bottle remains.
    GOAL: Finish product.
  18. L’Occitane Supple Skin Oil
NOTES: This is a very luxurious body oil but I just never bring myself to use it very often because I hate the glass bottle – it gets super slippery after even applying the oil once.  This is going on 2 years old and I’d like to get rid of it before it goes rancid.
    GOAL: Finish product.

As per last year, I’ll be providing quarterly updates on my progress.

Thanks for reading!

Do you like the Clinique City Block? I’ve been curious to try a sunscreen from Clinique.

I also found the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light to look peachy on me if I apply with a heavy hand. I use it mostly in the warmer months for some colour and glow.

I think you can finish that Too Faced matte palette this year!

Good luck with your new (and some old) rotation of products for Project Pan!

Oooh girl, some of these are going to be tough to hit pan on, like the TF Chocolate Soleil and maybe the Hourglass Dim Light, but I think others shouldn’t be too bad, like the perfumes! I don’t have particularly light skin, and Dim Light sometimes looks too peachy on me too if I apply too much. It’ll be so satisfying to see you finish up those shades in the Too Faced palette, haha. You’ll probably be able to see more pan on Pebbles too, even if it’s not in your goal to finish it up this year!

Good luck with your Project Pan!

Wow this is so great. Project Pan has been something I wanted to try. But, for make up that’s hard for me. I’m constantly dipping into a bunch of things at once. This is a great experiment and cant wait to see your progress.
