Last week I received a lovely surprise from a friend – the Simply Beautiful Editors Fall Box! If you’re like me, you may have never heard of this subscription service before, so to learn more about it, keep on reading.
The Simply Beautiful Editors Box is a subscription box is curated by the online magazine BC Living; it’s a not only great resource for anyone living or planning to visit the province of British Columbia, but a fantastic source in general for recipes, fashion trends, health and wellness and more.
A little more about the box itself, from their website:
“At BCLiving, we get to test hundreds of products every year, so we know what’s worth getting excited about—and we want to share that excitement with you!
Since 2010, we’ve been telling you about our favourite finds on BCLiving.ca, but now we want to actually put those products in your hands and in your home.
Whether it’s updates for your decor, pantry or personal style, we have pulled together items that will make you feel good. Perhaps it’s an essential oil to help you feel calm, a beautiful piece of jewellery to make you feel luxurious or a special tea to give you a sense of peace—we believe that being surrounded by beauty can make life that much sweeter.
And by incorporating these beautiful new items into your life, we hope you’ll be motivated to clear away the clutter and take time to reflect and appreciate the simply wonderful things already around you. Enjoy!”
This box will cost you $88 CAD plus taxes; shipping is free within Canada. Each box will have an approximate value ranging from $150 to $200 CAD.
Boxes are sent every 90 days and include 6 to 8 curated products for the body, home and soul, including beauty products, style pieces, home decor and more.
One thing that really impressed me about this box that I don’t think is very common – or even exists at all,is a guarantee. If after receiving your first box, you don’t think it was worth the money you paid for it, they’ll refund your money. Keep in mind that the box must be returned (return shipping cost not included) with all of its original items in unsed condition and you must notify them within 7 days of receiving the box. Boxes must be shipping back to them within 30 days as well.
WHAT’S INSIDE THE FALL 2017 BOX
The box arrived on my doorstep looking like this; I love the hand-drawn design on the outside!
Upon opening, it was packed snug and secure, with the product card on top.
The product card included a message from the editor of BC Living on one side…
with a description and cost of each of the products included in the box on the other.
First up was…
Daily Concepts Your Facial Micro Scrubber – $15 CAD
Whether you want a gentle wash or an exfoliating scrub, you’ve got it in the palm of your hand. This dual texture micro scrubber from Daily Concepts slips on like a mitt and comes with a convenient pouch that suction-mounts to your shower wall. The coolest part? We love that the label gradually fades to let you know when it’s time for a replacement.
I have a scrubber that is similar to this for my body that I keep in my shower and I love it; it’s so convenient for travel and it exfoliates really well. I haven’t had a chance to try this out yet but I suspect I will use this in a similar way – this is so much easier than trying to add another liquid to my already ready-to-burst liquids bag. This feels like a soft wash cloth which will be perfect for my sensitive skin.
Midnight Paloma Charcoal + Rose Detox Mask -$22
Handmade in small batches in Vancouver, Midnight Paloma is an all-natural skincare line dedicated to detoxifying the body using charcoal. This delicately scented mask uses the power of charcoal to absorb impurities and clean pores, while rolled oats soothe and rose petals hydrate your skin. So what are you waiting for? Apply the mask, relax for 10 minutes, and get ready to show off that glow.
I’ve gotten into a routine of doing a face mask each morning before I get ready for the day and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my skin as a result. As such I’m always looking for another to add into my mask rotation; I’ve used this once and so far, so good. It actually has little pieces of dried rose in it which was lovely. The scent is really nice too – not too strong rose, nor too strong charcoal. I can see this working really well for my skin when it needs a good detox session.
Blush Peony “I Wake Up Like This” Travel Mug – $19
Because even if you don’t wake up like this (we won’t tell), we all could use a little boost of confidence in the morning. And besides, with all the self-care we’ve packed into this box, you will be feeling pretty good about yourself. Designed locally, this chic travel mug will kick-start your day with style and positive vibes.
This mug is definitely cute and trendy; it’s important to note that it is plastic and the instructions state it can’t be used in a microwave or dishwasher.
Elate Universal Creme – $20
Victoria’s Elate Cosmetics wants to empower all women to make healthy choices and use the best possible products for their daily ritual. Their Universal Creme collection will flush your cheeks with a look that’s soft, dewy and natural, or highlight your face with a youthful contoured glow. The bonus? The pretty packaging is made entirely of biodegradable paper, and all of Elate’s products are vegan, cruelty-free and toxin-free.
This is totally up my alley; I love multi-tasking products. It has a creamy consistency and the shade is so pretty – it’d work perfect for both cheeks or lips. This will be great to throw in my purse!
Also, I made the “mistake” of checking out this brand’s website and now I want all the things. They have some of the prettiest packaging I’ve ever seen – I’m in love with their palettes!
Lavender & Grace Ella Earrings – $20
Kelowna’s Lavender & Grace creates delicate and dainty jewellery that’s also perfectly on trend. We’re obsessed with these understated yet edgy gold bar studs that will be your go-to earrings for seasons to come. Pair them with jeans and a sweater for just the right amount of daytime glamour, or with a cocktail dress for a simply sophisticated evening look.
I love how simple yet stylish these are – if only I wore earrings! I’ll be storing these away for a future giveaway. Again, made the mistake of visiting their website and I’ve got my eye on quite a few of their pieces!
The 7 Virtues Lisa Ray Jasmine of India Eau de Parfum – $70
Make perfume, not war. Halifax’s The 7 Virtues sources fair market natural essential oils from nations rebuilding after war or strife – and this collaborative effort with Indo-Canadian actress Lisa Ray unites the entire fragrance collection by supporting growers and their families. Allow the spicy notes of cardamom, ginger, frankincense and myrrh to transport you to India while you find peace in supporting an amazing cause.
This is a super potent perfume that is perfect for Fall; it’s sweet and spicy and it lasts all day long – one spritz is all that is needed. Kind of in love with the beautiful design of the bottle too…
Di Morelli Vitamin C Serum for Face and Eye – $45
If a serum isn’t already part of your daily beauty routine, this product will convince you to add it. Vitamin C is a highly effective anti-aging ingredient, and this potent and fast-absorbing treatment from Vancouver physician Dr. Morrell will help reduce the visible signs of aging and give you a brighter complexion. Di Morelli’s skin care line is paraben-free, hypoallergenic and not tested on animals.
I’ve been looking to add a Vitamin C serum to my skincare routine so this couldn’t have come along at a better time! I’ve used this a couple times and so far, so good. It has a thick, gel like consistency but it absorbs into my skin quickly. Obviously this is going to take some further use before I can determine if this is effective or not, so stay tuned for a more detailed review in the future!
TOTAL RETAIL VALUE: $211
If I had purchased this box myself, I’d be pretty happy with the contents and value. I love that they try to include as many products as possible that are either made in Canada, cruelty-free, vegan, non-toxic and/or support a cause. I also love that they offer free shipping in Canada and that money-back guarantee. I think this would make a fantastic gift for someone or just as a nice treat for yourself! It’s nice to have a Canadian-owned subscription service to add to the mix!
