Beauty Trash: June to August 2017

It’s time for another round of empties!  Let’s see what I’ve used up over the last couple of months!:

It Cosmetics CC Cream (Light)

I finally made my way through this huge tube of CC Cream!  It took me a year of regular use to get through this which was impressive; I ordered this through the Shopping Channel and it was a huge pita to get it but I must say the wait was worth it given the price and how long it lasted me.  I have a full review on this here if you want to read more on why I love it so much.

Repurchase?: Yes

NYX Butter Gloss (Tiramisu)

I’ve repurchased this gloss multiple times – it’s one of my favourites.  It’s easy to wear and apply, super comfortable and affordable.  My only complaint is that I tend to go through these really quickly.

Repurchase?: Yes

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream (Dolly)

Buxom makes one another one of my favourite lip glosses and Dolly is one of my favourite shades.  I’ve been through a few of these and I’ll continue to pick them up because they’re just that good.

Repurchase?: Yes

Saje CocoLips Lip Balm

I previously used up of Saje’s Peppermint Lip Balms and I enjoyed that one but I liked this one more.  It had a faint coconut scent, which was nice but what I liked best about it was how moisturizing it was.

Repurchase?: Yes

CO Bigelow My Favourite Night Balm

Everyone raves about this lip balm but I was really disappointed with it.  I found it just sat on top of my lips rather than absorbing into them and it did nothing to moisturize them.  On top of that I wasn’t a fan of the thick, tacky formula.

Repurchase?: No

Beauty Blender

I’ve tried a few different beauty sponges but I always end up coming back to the Beauty Blender.  There’s just something about it that applies my makeup flawlessly and with ease.  I know they recommend replacing these every 3 months but I find mine last close to a year (although I don’t use it every day) before it needs to be replaced, even with regular washing.  The only thing I don’t like about these is the fact that the dye bleeds from them really easily and quickly; I might purchase a different colour next time.

Repurchase?: Yes

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

After the Beauty Blender, this is my second choice for a beauty sponge.  I find this one absorbs more product and water and it just doesn’t apply my foundation as flawlessly as the BB.  Depending on the foundation I was using, I didn’t mind the flat side of this sponge but I think I prefer the shape of the original BB better overall.

Repurchase?: No

Essence Rock n’ Doll Volume & Eye Opening Mascara

Sigh – me and mascaras are just not getting along right now.  No matter which one I try, they all flake on me – it’s so frustrating.  This one was no exception – in fact, this was probably one of the worst ones I’ve tried ever for flaking.  It was super clumpy as well but it did give me really thick lashes – although if they did come at a price.

Repurchase?: No

Almay One Coat Thickening Mascara

This was one lame mascara.  The brush didn’t hold on to any of the product so I ended up with spidery, thin lashes, which is exactly what I don’t want and definitely not what I was expecting given the name of this.  I used this for about a week before I threw it in my empties – I couldn’t be bothered with it.

Repurchase?: No

Essence Easy 2 Use Jumbo Eyeliner Pen

I had a love/hate relationship with this product; it was definitely easy to use thanks to its short and stubby design – I wish more companies made eyeliners designed like this!  Unfortunately the formula of the eyeliner was horrible – it smudged like crazy.  On top of that this dried out really quickly – I only got in a few uses before I had to chuck it.

Repurchase?: No

L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer (Dark Blonde)

This actually should have been down in my repeats section – I’ve gone through a few of them.  I really really like these – they make creating a defined brow very easy.  My only complaint is that I go through them so quickly so I’ve scaled back on picking these up on a regular basis.

Repurchase?: Yes

Essence Make Me Brow (Blonde)

Part of the reason why I’ve scaled back on picking up the L’Oreal pencil above, is because of this product.  This brow mascara is super simple to apply and it fills in my brows nicely and keeps them in place all day long.  They definitely give my brows more of a natural look which I’m fine with on a day-to-day basis.

Repurchase?: Yes

Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream (Light)

Sadly this is discontinued (at least here in Canada) but it was my favourite self-tanner without being a self-tanner.  It just gave my skin a slight tint and luminous glow, while masking imperfections.  I never had to worry about streaking or patchiness with this so.  I’m super disappointed that it’s no longer around.

Repurchase?: Yes

Aveeno Uplifting Body Wash (White Peach & Ginger)

I used this as a body wash/bubble bath hybrid and it worked well.  I loved the scent and even though I didn’t find it super moisturizing, it did the job.

Repurchase?: Yes

OGX Coconut Miracle Oil Lotion

I love this stuff so much – it’s the best lotion I’ve ever used.  I apply this liberally, rub it in a bit and it just absorbs right into my skin.  I never have to worry about dry skin after using this.  Plus the scent is amazing – I find it smells similar to the oh-so-famous Bum Bum Cream but better.  Plus it’s much easier on the wallet!

Repurchase?: Yes

OGX Coconut Miracle Oil Body Wash

After using the lotion in this line and falling in love with it I knew I had to try the body wash too.  I’m so glad I did because I’m head-over-heels in love with this.  It has that same awesome scent as the lotion and it doesn’t dry out my skin.  I’ve used this as a bubble bath (makes lots of thick bubbles!) and a body wash and I love it equally both ways.  It’s good stuff!

Repurchase?: Yes

Island Soap Kauai Kiss Hawaiian Shea Butter Body Cream

Whenever we visit Hawaii I always make sure to pick up some of Island Soap’s body lotion and lip balms.  I use this as hand cream and I really like it – all of their scents smell amazing and they’re infused with mango seed butter, aloe and Vitamin E so they’re super moisturizing.

Repurchase?: Yes

The Body Shop Almond Nail & Cuticle Oil Pen

I had a couple of these cuticle oil pens and I couldn’t wait to finish them up!  I never noticed any difference after using this, I might as well not even have bothered.  The only thing I like was the packaging as it was convenient and compact.

Repurchase?: No

Bobby Brown Beach Fragrance

I’m weird and love the scent of sunscreen – but maybe I’m not all that weird because Bobby Brown made a fragrance that smells like exactly that.  I bought this quite a while ago and finally got around to finishing it up this Summer.  What irritates me about this fragrance is that is has exactly ZERO staying power so I’m glad I only picked up the rollerball.

Repurchase?: No

La Roche-Posay Micellar Water Ultra

I’ve got a full review on this micellar water here; this is a pretty good one and on-par with my beloved Sephora Triple Action Cleansing Water.

Repurchase?: Yes

Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser

This wasn’t a bad cleanser but my skin has recently transitioned from combination to dry and I need something a little more moisturizing.  While this didn’t leave my skin feeling tight or dry after using it, I’ve recently discovered something that leaves my skin more hydrated and I much prefer that.

Repurchase?: No

Vichy Normaderm Corrective Anti-Acne Treatment Lotion

I’ve been using this product for over a year as my daily moisturizer and I do like it – the problem is it doesn’t always play nice with other skincare products.  If I applied a serum underneath or a primer overtop, it would often pill up on my skin and that started to get really annoying.  That said, I did see results with this so I can’t say I wouldn’t go back to it some day.  Read my review on this and other products in Vichy’s Normaderm line here.

Repurchase?: Yes

Muji Cleansing Oil

So many people rave about this cleansing oil and given that it’s formulated for sensitive skin, I couldn’t wait to give a try myself.  It worked well to remove my makeup but I just don’t think oil cleansers are for me; I like a cleanser that I can use to remove my eye makeup with and you can’t do that with this one (as is the case with many other oil cleansers).

Repurchase?: No

Belif Creamy Cleansing Moist

This was a very gentle cleanser and I had zero issues with it – but I just didn’t feel like it was anything special.  Also I hate thie name of this lol (moist…ugh).

Repurchase?: No

Karuna Exfoliating Sheet Masks

Prior to trying Karuna’s sheet masks I’ve never found any sheet masks to be all that effective.  These impressed me – I actually saw and felt a difference after use!  My skin felt smoother, softer and my pores looked smaller!  My mom picked up a pack of these at Winners for way cheaper than what they charge at Sephora, so if you come across these, swipe them up asap!  That said, I’d still pay the full price for one of these at Sephora – that’s how much I like them!

Repurchase?: Yes

Exact Oil Absorbing Sheets

These are Superstore’s knock-off of the Clean & Clear blotting sheets; newsflash – they work exactly the same for half the price!

Repurchase?: Yes

Sephora Avocado Sleeping Mask

Another face mask that I’ve been absolutely loving – this stuff is amazing!  It’s a lightweight gel that comes in a pod; I found I could get about 5 or so uses out of this because a little went a long way.  After applying this at night, I’d wake up with the softest, most hydrated skin the next morning.  I need to pick another one of these up asap!

Repurchase?: Yes

FAB Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask

My skin can be quite reactive so I like having something on hand that can soothe and calm it when needed.  This mask does exactly that; it’s very comforting as it smells like warm oatmeal.  Note that I don’t find this mask hydrating at all, even though it claims to be.

Repurchase?: Yes

Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Biotin Volume Conditioner

I finished up the matching shampoo to this conditioner last time around; both of them did a sufficient job and I really liked the scent.  I probably won’t repurchase this though because I like to try different hair products all the time.

Repurchase?: No

Living Proof Full Shampoo

I picked this up at Winners last year for half the price it retails for in Sephora.  I had previously tried a travel-sized bottle of this and I really liked it.  For whatever reason, this bottle was completely different.  I didn’t find it volumized my hair at all and it made it tangle really badly, no matter what conditioner I used in conjunction with it.

Repurchase?: No

Cavaiar Anti-Aging Bodybuilding Volume Shampoo

I picked this up as part of a Black Friday set last year and I fell in love with it everything included in it.  The shampoo in particular is lovely – my hair felt really clean and soft after using this.  Unfortunately the price of this is just ridiculous – $40 for a bottle of shampoo?  I can’t justify that.

Repurchase: Yes but no

Marc Anthony Hydrating Coconut Oil Volume Hairspray

This little can of travel hairspray impressed me so much!  It’s lightweight and offers a medium hold and it smells amazing (like Coconut!).  I’ve got another travel-sized can of this to use up but I’m fairly certain I’m going to pick up a full-sized can once I’m finished with that.

Repurchase: Yes

Kenra Thermal Styling Spray

When I first picked up this product and starting using it, I liked it.  Then I forgot about it and it sat in my cupboard for a while and I’m not sure if that affected its performance because after that it seemed to have changed. It made my hair tangle like crazy and left it feeling super sticky.  As a result I don’t think I’d pick this up again.

Repurchase: No

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

This dry shampoo is super intense – and as a result, I just found it way too much for my fine hair.  It weighed my hair down and left a lot of residue behind.  I’ll just stick to my Batiste thanks (much cheaper anyway!).

Repurchase?: No

Cake The Locks Smith Dry Conditioner

Given my love for dry shampoo, I thought it could only make sense that I try a dry conditioner as well.  This was supposed to clean my roots while adding shine and smoothing and protecting my hair.   I definitely could not use this in place of a dry shampoo – it didn’t absorb oil, if anything it made my hair greasier if I sprayed it at my roots.  As such I focused using it on the bottom half of my hair and it seemed to smooth my ends a bit but didn’t do much more than that.

Repurchase?: No

REPEATS (unless otherwise noted, I have and will continue to repurchase any products noted in this category)

Batiste Dry Shampoo x 4

Cherry Batiste is my new favourite scent; sadly it seems they’ve changed the XXL Volume from a delightful vanilla scent to strong perfumey scent and I kind of hate that.  But I’ll still use it.

Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Enhancing Styling Foam x2

No matter how many hair mousses (is that the correct plural term?) I try, I always come back to this one because it’s the best.  I have stick-straight hair, but this works wonders on it – it keeps my style in tact way longer than any other product I’ve tried.  Mr. PRL uses this too and loves it (and he has curly hair!).

Kirkland Daily Facial Towelletes x 2

For removing swatches only – don’t put these anywhere around your face!

Neutrogena All-in-One Makeup Removing Cleansing Wipes

My favourite makeup removing wipes – I love that they have a fragrance-free option for these now!

Delectable Super Smoothing Body Polish  (Strawberry & Cream)

This smells so good but I go through these tubes so quickly; as a result I only pick them up if I can get them on sale.  I couldn’t find this on Cake’s website so I wonder if they are discontinuing this? 🙁

Delectable Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream (Vanilla & Cream)

My favourite hand cream ever; I’m feeling a bit concerned because they seem to be clearing these out on their website too – don’t do this to me Cake!

FAB Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

This is also a favourite hand cream of mine but I use them when my eczema flares up and it works wonders.  I always have a tube of this around.

Lip Smacker Dr. Pepper Lip Balm

No words needed.

I’m off to dump all of this into the trash/recycling now.  Thanks for reading!

Wow, that’s an impressive amount of empties! I’m going to have to look for those Exact Oil Absorption Sheets the next time I’m at the Superstore!
