Lorac Pirates of the Caribbean Cheek Palette

As mentioned in my makeup haul post, a few weeks ago I was in Ulta which = Lorac for me; I picked up a few things, including this limited edition, Pirates of the Caribbean Cheek Palette and today I’m reviewing it!

ABOUT

From Lorac’s website:

“The fearsomely beautiful palette includes six brand-new shades of our Color Source Buildable Blush and Light Source Illuminating Highlighters, inspired by the beauty and brilliance of the film’s new heroine, Carina Smyth. Our silky-smooth matte and satin blushes and highlighters are paraben free and infused with anti-aging antioxidants such as Pomegranate, Acai, and Vitamins A, C, and E. These complexion-enhancing formulas can be dusted on lightly for a soft, natural look or layered for dramatic results.”

PRICE

$30 USD for 0.54 oz/15.42 g of product total.

PACKAGING

This design of this palette is a lightweight but sturdy cardboard and has a very similar design and feel to their Pro eyeshadow palettes.  It opens book-style and inside you’ll find a nice sized mirror.  While I’m not the biggest fan of cardboard palettes, I do like how compact this one is and think it would work well for travel.

SCENT

None of the powders have any noticeable scent.

PERFORMANCE

Prior to this, I had never tried any of Lorac’s face products but I had high expectations of them, given my positive experience with their eyeshadow palettes.  I’m happy to report that they have lived up to those expectations – they are super soft, buttery and smooth and very pigmented.  I’m not always a big fan of pigmented blushes and highlights as I tend to use a heavy hand when applying both; that said, in this case these practically blend themselves so if I apply too much, it’s an easy fix.  In addition, I think anyone with a deeper skintone is really going to appreciate the level of pigmentation and colour payoff on these.

Lasting power was decent as well – I got around 8 hours of wear with all of these before they started to fade away.

In terms of shades, there isn’t anything in this palette that I don’t really like.  If I had to complain about anything, it would be that Lost Soul isn’t really a blush shade I would normally wear and I do find it looks a little muddy with my skintone.  That said, I can easily use this as a bronzer.  I also find I have to use a very light hand with Star Reader, otherwise that blue/green shift can look a little odd on me.  Otherwise, I find I can wear all of the other shades with ease.

Lastly, similar to their eyeshadow formula, these are super soft and a little powdery, meaning you need to tap your brush off if you want to avoid fallout.

VERDICT

I am super happy with this purchase; I think it was a phenomenal deal and I’ve really been enjoying using this over the last few weeks.  Unfortunately this palette is limited edition; it’s no longer available on Ulta’s website but it still showing as in-stock on Lorac’s website and you may still be able to find it in-store.  Now that I’ve gotten a taste for Lorac’s face products, I only want to try more!  I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another of their cheek palettes or single blushes or highlighters the next time I’m at an Ulta!

Thanks for reading!

This cheek palette is so lovely! I didn’t really give this a second glance when I saw reviews because I’m not a fan of PotC, but all of the shades are so pretty and most of them look like they are universally flattering?

Yes I totally think this could work for multiple skintones, especially since they’re so buildable! I’m not really a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean either but when I saw it in store I had to have it. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

What a deal! Glad the performance is good – you just never know with LE palettes these days. I kind of wished it was Pirates of the Caribbeans movie themed – I mean, the colours could have worked for just about anything. BUT, the shades all look super wearable and I like how compact the palette is. I remember Lorac baked blushes were all the rage a while back but of course they were already out of Canada at that time.

I personally just love how consistent Lorac is – every powder product I’ve tried from them has the same texture, and is soft and blendable. How many brands can you say that about nowadays?

I’ve been seeing Lorac products more and more lately. This palette definitely looks good and seems worth the try. I also really love Pirates of the Caribbean so maybe I’m a little biased.

I’m a bit obsessed with them – they’ve become my new favourite brand. I love their consistency and quality. I’ll be honest I haven’t watched a POTC movie in ages, I had no idea they were still making them!
