Love with Food Deluxe Box Review – March 2017

Here I am again with another Love with Food Deluxe Box review; last month I was contemplating canceling my subscription and I couldn’t bring myself to do it.  I’ve never had that problem with a subscription box before.  However I finally bit the bullet today and did it – so my last box will be in April.  I’m sad to say goodbye to it but having a box of snacks around is just a bit too tempting right now with bathing suit season in the near future.  I’ll be doing a complete overview of my experience with the box in my April review so keep an eye out for that.  In the meantime, on to this/last months’ review!

Subscription Options

Love with Food currently offers 3 types of subscription boxes – a Tasting Box, a Deluxe Box and a Gluten Free Box:

  • Tasting Box – as low as $7.99/month (USD)
    • 8+ new & surprise snacks each month
    • Each box donates 1 meal to hungry children
    • Snacks are either organic or all-natural, GMO-free, gluten-free or free of artificial junk
    • Free shipping to US and territories.
    • Not available for international shipping 🙁
  • Deluxe Box – as low as $16.50/month (USD)
    • 16-20 new & surprise snacks each month
    • Each box donates 2 meals to hungry children
    • Snacks are either organic or all-natural, GMO-free, gluten-free or free of artificial junk
    • Free shipping to US and territories.
    • Introductory Offer: $5.99/mo for international shipping
  • Gluten Free Box – as low as $19.99/month (USD)
    • 10-12 surprise celiac-safe & mostly dairy-free snacks each month
    • Each box donates 2 meals to hungry children
    • Snacks will be totally gluten-free and also organic or all-natural, with no artificial junk.
    • Free shipping to US and territories.
    • Introductory Offer: $5.99/mo for international shipping

Within each category of box, they have 4 plans – Month to Month, Annual, 3-Month and 6-Month.  I chose the Month-to-Month option because I like having the freedom to cancel whenever I want.  I do pay more per box this way – each box costs me $19.95 US plus $5.95 US shipping per month.  If you sign up for a 3-month, 6-month or annual plan, the price per box decreases.  It’s also important to note that no matter which plan you chose, it will renew automatically unless you cancel before the first of the month (something I learned the hard way with previous subscription boxes).

Points Program

Love with Food also offers a points program where you can earn points in various ways – such as doing a review of a product you received in your box or purchasing items in their online shop.  They also allot you points based on the type of subscription service you receive.

Points can then be redeemed for products in their online shop.  Unfortunately the shop is not yet open to their international subscribers but their website states they plan on expanding that soon.  So fingers crossed!

March’s theme was Happy Go Lucky: “2017 is already off to a delicious start, but we’re sure March is going to be a very lucky month for all of our super snackers.  We want to encourage all of you to worry a little less, smile a little more and just see where this lucky month takes you!  The Happy Go Lucky box has all the snacks you’ll need along the way, so just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!”

What’s inside

Enstrom Milk Chocolate Almond Toffee

I’m pretty sure I’ve received some variation of toffee in at least 75% of my boxes and I can’t say I’m mad about it – I love toffee.  This might be the best one yet – it was super thick and very toffee-heavy with just a thin layer of chocolate overtop.  I could eat an entire box of these!

Wild Garden Hummus & Veggie Chips Snack Box

The texture of hummus kind of turns me off of it so I was a bit apprehensive of this.  After devouring this I now wish I could get these kits here because it made me a hummus convert!  The hummus was smooth and creamy and worked so well with the veggie chips.  If you have a favourite hummus I’d totally appreciate you sharing it with me below!

Ruger Vanilla Cream Filled Wafer

These were very similar to those wafer cookies you can get at the grocery store but they were super light and airy.  Perfect for a light dessert or snack.

Tasty Brand Organic Emoji-Shaped Cookies (Chocolate)

Welcome to 2017 where they make cookies in the shape of emojis.  Why not, I guess.  These were a good standard chocolate cookie – no complaints.

18 Rabbits Date, Pecan & Coconut Bar

I’m not really a fan of dates so I didn’t really expect to like this but it was GOOD!  Really filling too!  I’m such a fan of healthy food that doesn’t taste like it.

Route 11 Chips (Dill Pickle)

Two of my favourite things combined – dill pickles and kettle chips.  These were really yummy. That bag was really puffed up with air though – it exploded when I tried to open it (thankfully no chips were sacrificed in the process).

Torie & Howard Chewie Fruities

These were exactly like Starburst, except healthier.  What’s not to like?

Wise Sea Salt Popcorn

As much as I love chips, I’ve been trying hard not to eat them so I’ve been reaching for popcorn as a healthier alternative.  Love the low calories on this and it wasn’t too salty.

Tree Hugger Fantastic Fruit Gum Balls

I can’t remember the last time I actually had a gum ball so these were a welcome treat.  These were nice because they didn’t lose their flavour too quickly nor become super tough to chew.

Hippeas Vega White Cheddar Organic Chickpea Puffs

I really like dried chickpeas so I figured I would like these…. :(.  Nope.  These started out tasting pretty good but they had an off-putting aftertaste that I just couldn’t’ get past.

Balis’ Best Espresso Candy

I actually like the taste of coffee (even though I don’t drink it) but these were just a little too intensely flavoured for my taste.  I think if you like espresso you’d enjoy these!

Monbana Hot Chocolate

I like my hot chocolate to taste like chocolate and be a bit sweet.  This didn’t offer much of either.

The Verdict

2 Loves, 7 Likes, 3 Meh’s and no Dislikes – I’d consider this a successful box.  I’ll say it again – I’m so going to miss my subscription, it’s such a great way to discover new snacks and try new stuff.  I’m wistfully awaiting my April box…hopefully it’s a good one!

Have I convinced you that you need this subscription box in your life?  If so, feel free to use my referral link to receive 50% off your first box.  In the interest of full disclosure, I’ll receive 1000 points (equates to $10) to spend in their shop (once they expand it internationally).
