A few weeks ago I received a lovely parcel in the mail from ChickAdvisor; it contained a bottle of La Roche-Posay Micellar Water Ultra Reactive Skin (that’s a mouthful!). I was running low on micellar water so I was pretty happy to be selected for this campaign and be given another opportunity to try out a new product.
I use micellar water on a daily basis – mainly to remove any makeup leftover from cleansing and occasionally in the morning to refresh my skin if I feel it needs it. I’ve gone through many types from a variety of brands but never one from La Roche-Posay. In fact, I’ve never tried anything from this brand, although I was aware of it, I’ve seen it many times at my local Shopper’s Drug Mart.
I did a little research on the Company and was surprised to discover that they’ve been around since 1928, which is quite impressive in today’s market. In addition, they have a strong commitment to dermatology and formulate products suitable to every skin need, specifically sensitive of skin (that’s me!)

PACKAGING
Pretty standard packaging for a micellar water – plastic bottle with a flip top cap. I personally prefer a pump as I find you waste less product that way.
PERFORMANCE
My first requirement of any micellar water is that it removes my makeup with ease. I find this works well – although it doesn’t top the list. If I’m comparing it to my favourite micellar water (Sephora’s Triple Action Cleansing Water), I find that I have to put a little more effort into to remove my stubborn eye makeup.
My skin does feel refreshed and clean after using it, and it doesn’t feel sticky or tacky afterwards which I appreciate. If I’m feeling exceptionally lazy, I can use this to remove all of my makeup and not feel like I’m doing my skin a huge disservice.
I’m not sure I can say it hydrates my skin but it definitely doesn’t leave it feeling dry or dehydrated. This is key because my skin can get dry really quickly if I’m using the wrong product.
Lastly, I can’t say I’ve seen a huge difference in the amount of redness in my skin; I do deal with lots of redness in my cheeks so I was kind of hoping this could be the answer for me but I’ve only seen a slight decrease in redness and only in some instances. That said, it definitely hasn’t made the redness any worse (which again, some products have been known to do).
VERDICT
Overall I’d say I’m impressed with this product and would repurchase it on my own. I think it’s as close as I’m going to get to duping Sephora’s version but it actually comes in a little cheaper ($5) for the same amount of product. At closer comparison of ingredients between the two, Sephora’s also contains fragrance, so La Roche-Posay’s could be a better option for you if you are looking for one that is fragrance-free.

I love to use micellar water in the morning too! Great, balanced review 🙂 I’ve been a fan of la-Roche products for years. Their moisturizer and cleanser has always been gentle when I have eczema in my face or body. I guess I just love the French because my fav micellar water is still bioderma (but I’m enjoying Origins Mega Mushroom micellar water a lot lately!)
Oh I get eczema too – I’m going to have to check them out further! I’ve still yet to try Bioderma…Mega Mushroom micellar water? THAT sounds interesting! 🙂
Is it bad that I’ve never used micellar water? Do you use anything else to take off your makeup after using micellar water, or is it a one-step process?
Pretty awesome that this worked almost as well as your favourite! The only thing I’ve used from La Roche-Posay is their sunscreen, which I found to be only okay.
Oh you should totally give micellar water a try – I use it after washing my face but for the odd times when I’m too lazy to wash my face, I use it to take off all of my makeup and it works really well! I like that I can use it on my skin and to remove eye makeup. 🙂
I have rosacea and find the brand Simple non-irritating. Betty’s Bath products are by far the best I’ve tried for my redness due to rosacea. They seem to know what the are doing.
