Happy New Year – welcome to the first This & That Fridays of 2017!
what’s going on with me
Nothing like a brand new year to start fresh right? Except if you’re me because I started off 2017 similar to 2016, in that I was sick! Grrrrr! 2017 you were supposed to be better – this better not become a thing!?! On the bright side, no pink eye this year (thank you Baby Jesus!) but just the flu that seems to be running rampant around the city and then a self-diagnosed sinus infection (#myfacehurts). Still, it threw a wrench into my extensive plan of getting a good start on my tasks for the year. I’m about 75% back to normal so I should be able to get back into things on Monday.
have you seen/tried/heard?
I’m not really into award shows but I watched the Golden Globes this year because Jimmy Fallon was hosting and I love him. But let’s talk fashion, specifically dresses. Who were your favourites? I loved Reese Witherspoon’s (always do), Millie Bobbie Brown (so age appropriate), Kristen Cavalieri’s, and Yvette Nicole Brown’s (this was my favourite – sparkly rose gold!) . Did not enjoy Jessica Biel’s, Sarah Jessica Parker’s, Blake Lively’s (#awkwardpockets) or Nicole Kidman’s.
Speaking of Mille Bobby Brown, have you watched Stranger Things? I watched the entire first season over the holidays and I am hooked. Sci-Fi isn’t really my thing but it sucked me in – can’t wait for Season 2!
This dog has better hair than me…
ColorPop released pressed eyeshadows and they look really beautiful – Temptalia has a great sneak peak and swatches up.
I had to make a couple purchases at Sephora prior to the end of the year as I was $60 or so away from being VIB Rouge so I picked up this Tarte Tarteist Eyeliner Set (no longer available on Sephora’s website) and one of Nars’ Velvet Lip Glides in Bound. I really want to like the eyeliner – it’s highly pigmented, super easy to use (I can do a wing!) and glides on effortlessly – but it smudges like crazy on me. 🙁 On the bright side the Velvet Lip Glide is every bit as amazing as everyone says they are. Good thing considering I paid $34 for a lip product!
I may have found a decent pair of leggings that won’t blow the budget from Express. After two months of wear, they’re still soft, haven’t faded nor stretched out. I only wish they were a tad bit thicker.
After lusting after them for what feels like years, I finally got myself one of these Super Soft Throws from Chapters/Indigo on Boxing Day and I love it SO MUCH! It’s so soft and cozy and perfect if you just need a light blanket to keep you warm. I’m buying another.
Look at these Nars Cheek Palettes. They look beautiful although I don’t think I could justify $76 for one.
I’m still searching for that perfect handbag…it needs to be small to medium in size, leather, black or another neutral, have a large zipper compartment, non-structured in design and a cross-body strap. Not too much to ask right? I’ve been eyeing up this one given that it actually fits the bill.
Yoga has never interested me until now…..#downwardgoat
Oreo Cadbury Cream Eggs? Apparently these have been in Canada (and the UK) for a year but I’ve never seen them. I’m not sure how I feel about this….
favourite youtube video of the week
Something a little different this week – Roberto Blake has some really great tips for expanding your followers on Social Media, specifically if you’re just starting out. I feel his advice can be applied to blogs, Youtube channels and life in general! #dothework
