In keeping with my theme of posts I’ve fallen behind on, I present to you my Sephora Haul. I’ve grouped my Sephora VIB Sale, Black Friday and $25 off coupon purchases all in one post and I have a few first impressions to share with you too!
Belief Bestsellers on the Go Holiday Travel Kit – $20 USD
I was in the US recently and I picked up this kit; I’ve never heard of this brand but the reviews online were really favourable. You all know how much I love sample sizes and this seemed like a great way to try a bunch of their products. It includes a face wash, toner, serum, eye cream and moisturizer. I haven’t been using this enough to have opinions on their effectiveness but so far, they seem really nice. I’m thinking of doing a full review on this set on it’s own, so stay tuned for that.
I’ve been wanting to pick up some single shadows for a while and I just haven’t gotten around to it. When I received my $25 off coupon a few weeks ago I decided it was time to bite the bullet. I am SO SO happy with these two shadows – they are absolutely amazing to work with. They’re soft but not so much that I experience a lot of fallout, pigmented and they blend so easily. Gleam is described as satin frosted chiffon and Sangria as a satin iridescent cranberry. It kind of killed me to spend $16 on a single shadow but now that I’ve used them and experienced their wonder I feel they’re worth their hefty price tag and I want more.
Clinique Pretty Easy Eyelining Pen – $24 CAD
I’m not sure why I keep picking up eyeliners but I heard various Youtubers mention how user-friendly this one was and because liquid eyeliner is something I struggle with in a major way, I figured I had to try it out. I’ve used it a few times and unfortunately I’m not really understanding what makes this so easy to use – it’s a very fluid formula which for me, is really difficult to use. I’m hoping once it dries out a bit it’ll be easier for me to use.
Birthday Gift – Marc Jacobs
This year I was smart and picked up my birthday gift before the end of December (last year they ran out of the Nars set I wanted). This set includes a mini lipstick and eyeliner; I’ve worn the lipstick once and I really liked the shade and the formula – very comfortable! I tried the eyeliner today and it seemed a little stiff – it didn’t glide on easily like I was expecting.
Peter Thomas Roth FirmX Peeling Gel – $60 CAD
This is a repurchase, although it has been about a year since I last purchased it. This is one of those gels that you massage into your skin and your dead skin cells ball up and form on your skin, which you wipe away. It’s fascinating yet also kind of disgusting. This is powerful stuff so I only use it a few times a week but I do notice a difference – my skin feels more even, soft and smooth and free of flakiness.
This is my new favourite fragrance – if I had to describe it, I would say it smells like a mix of a wood-burning fireplace mixed with a burning vanilla candle. I find it really comforting and a perfect winter fragrance. My only complaint is that it doesn’t seem to last an entire day.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance – $24 CAD
This is my favourite eyeshadow primer; my eyeshadow stays put and I experience zero fading or creasing when I use this. A tube lasts a long time too!
Tarte Tarteist Double Take Eyeliner – $29 CAD
This is an eyeliner I’d recommend for someone who is actually good at eyeliner – which isn’t me. I have shaky hands and recently determined that liquid liners that are on the drier side (such as Kat von D’s Tattoo Liner); this one is really liquidy and fluid. It’s super pigmented and it seems to have good staying power but once I’ve used it up, I don’t see myself repurchasing it.
Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer – $20 CAD
A little late to the party on this one but I saw this travel-sized version in what I like to refer to as the “danger zone” (the area near the checkouts) and it was an impulse purchase. I think it’s good but perhaps a little over-rated; it seems to blend away to nothing and I find it a little light for my skin, which is interesting because I’m quite pale. I think I prefer my Too Faced Chocolate Soleli over this.
Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask – $24 CAD
My lips get so dry in winter so I picked this up in an effort to give them some added moisture. I’m still sorting out how I feel about it – I like the packaging and it comes with a small plastic spatula to apply it which I appreciate it. It has a pleasant scent – sort of a mix between bubblegum and fruit. It has a gel texture which is really comfortable. But do I find my lips are more moisturized because of it? I’m not sure I can but I want to keep using it for a bit longer before I make a sound decision on it.
BLACK FRIDAY DEALS
Most of these sets are sold out online but if any of them interest you, check in-store! I’ve seen a few of them hanging around.
Alterna Haircare Caviar Volume Trio Kit – $13 CAD
This was such a great little set, especially given the price. It included their BodyBuilding Volume Shampoo & Conditioner and their Anti-Aging Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist. I kind of hate trying expensive shampoos because if they’re good it makes it hard to resist splurging on them. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) I really like all 3 products that were included in the set – the shampoo and conditioner work really well and give my roots a noticeable lift yet leave it feeling light and bouncy. And the volumizing mist is great – it leaves my hair feeling full and keeps my style in place well.
Nest Eau de Parfum Travel Spray Trio – $16
There were a few perfume sets available on Black Friday but I ended up with this one as it seemed the least floral (I HATE floral scents). It included minis of Indigo, Citrine and Dhalia & Vines. So far I’ve used Indigo and I love it; it’s described as having notes of moroccan tea, kashmir wood, and black cardamom, enhanced with hints of wild fig and bergamot. That doesn’t sound all that appealing and the best way I could describe it would be warm, spicy and sweet and a little earthy. It lingers lightly all day and a little goes a long way. I’m looking forward to trying the other two fragrances!
Tarte Intro to Tarte Deluxe Discovery Set – $13 CAD
I picked up last year’s Tarte set and was very happy with it so I was eager to pick up this years’ version. Included was a blush, lipstick and mascara. The lipstick isn’t my favourite shade (kind of a beigey nude) but I do like the blush (peachy neutral) and I’ve used the mascara before multiple times before and enjoyed it.
Buxom License To Chill 3 Piece Eye & Lip Collection – $15 CAD
This set includes a full sized Buxom eyeshadow, a mini full-on lip cream and full-on lipstick. The eyeshadow alone makes the cost of this set worth it, although it’s a gold shade so I probably won’t be wearing it all that often. The lip products on the other hand will be used – the Kir Royale (burgundy) lip gloss is one I’ve used before and enjoy. And the full-on lipstick is in the shade Havana which is a bright and vibrant purple hued burgundy shade that is perfect for this time of year. Another winner here!
Living Proof Style Lab Kit – $13 CAD
This set included a travel-sized Flex Shaping Hairspray and Style Extender primer. The Primer is great and something I make use of in the Spring when humidity can be high here – it helps keep my style intact. I couldn’t wait to try the hairspray and so far, it appears to be a winner. It holds my hair in place but doesn’t leave any crunchiness or stickyness behind which is a bonus.
And that wraps up my haul! I thought by now I would have spent enough to make VIB Rouge for another year (even though I wasn’t trying to) but I’m still $40 or so away so I’m going to have to go and pick up something else before the year is out (might as well, right?) What have you picked up recently from Sephora?
